Why Kaguta beat Kutesa to win Mawogola North election in NRM primaries

The NRM electoral commission has declared Godfrey Aine Kaguta also known as Sodo , a brother to President Yoweri  Kaguta Museveni as the winner of the highly contested election in Mawogola North constituency in the ruling party primaries.

The NRM election officials of the area announced Sodo who polled 17343 votes against Shartsi Kutesa’s who polled 16104 votes. The other candidate Salim Kisekka got 4274 votes.

The NRM electoral commission boss Dr.Tanga Odoi was present to ensure that things go on as planned after violence stopped two earlier same elections. According to the results announced Kaguta beat his closest rival by 1239 votes.

The election which was supposed to be held on September 4, was postponed twice over ugly scenes of violence between supporters of both Godfrey Aine Kaguta and Shartis Kutesa Musherure who are both close to the First family.

In order to stop any acts of violence the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Maj.Gen.Muzeeyi Sabiiti and the CID Director, AIGP Grace Akullo camped in the area to oversee security.

On the other hand, the top NRM electoral commission chiefs including Dr.Tanga Odoi also personally camped in the area to monitor the situation in the volatile Ssembabule district.

Although Dr Tanga urged the winner and losers to reconcile to help develop the area, Shartis Kutesa has reportedly said she was cheated.

“The winner must appreciate others, consult them, try to build synergies and bring together Ssembabule and the NRM party,” he said.

The election should have been held on September 4, was postponed twice over ugly scenes of violence between supporters of Kaguta and Kutesa.

Security was tight and Police mounted several roadblocks to stop what would result or cause violence.

Why Kutesa lost to Kaguta

Shartis Kutesa stepped in to inherit the father ‘s constituency, Sam Kutesa while Sodo Kaguta was a new comer who would have to be welcomed.

Sam Kutesa the Foreign Affairs minister and un doubt-ably a very influential politician in President Museveni government had been MP for the area for over 20 years.

Voters also said Sodo Kaguta although a young brother to President Museveni is more social than Shartis Kutesa although she(Kutesa) and her further may have more resources at their disposal to spend on the constituency.

Rwamojo said the Kaguta family are better than Kutesa’s. Mzee Kaguta, President Kaguta and Sodo Kaguta they are a bigger family compared to Kutesa’s, we choose the bull” .

she is a married woman and mother of four kids. She is in private employment and a Lawyer by profession who studied in the UK.
