Safeguards for Receiving Prophecy by Pastor Vlad

Prophecy is a gift of the Holy Spirit intended to encourage, rebuke, and sometimes predict what will come (1 Cor. 14:3). However, it can sometimes be misused, leading to manipulation instead of edification. Here are a few tips that can help you stay discerning.

Consider This When Receiving a Prophetic Word:

1.    Prophecy confirms God’s voice – Prophetic words should align with what God is already saying in your heart. If the prophecy is completely unexpected, it’s best to pray for clarity.

2.    Consider their character – Does God speak to them? Are they in a local church? Do they believe in Jesus Christ? Who are the people that are speaking into their life?

3.    Don’t let prophecy dictate decisions – Prophetic words are meant to guide, not dictate or manipulate the will of a godly person. We’re supposed to be led by the Holy Spirit; the prophetic is meant to confirm, encourage, and strengthen that.

4.    Prophecies are “in part” – Understand that while prophecies might be accurate, they often provide only a part of God’s larger plan for you. Don’t be afraid to judge the prophecy you’re receiving according to the Scriptures.
