The leaders of the Democratic Alliance and the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Party, Mathias Mpuuga and Patrick Oboi Amuriat have met to discuss proposed electoral reforms aimed at ensuring free, fair, and credible elections in Uganda.
The meeting, held at the FDC headquarters in Najjanakumbi, Kampala, marks a significant step towards potential collaboration on constitutional amendments and power transition reforms.
Mathias Mpuuga alongside the Democratic Alliance delegation have joined hands today with the Forum for Democratic Change in a significant move towards fostering proposed electoral reforms and constitutional amendments. This groundbreaking meeting was led by Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat at the FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi today.
The closed meeting saw the attendance of key leaders such as Hon. Jack Sabiiti, Deputy President Wokuri Margaret among others with the Democratic Alliance delegation spearheaded by Mathias Mpuuga as they discussed the proposed constitutional reforms even as they approach the election season.
Patrick Amuriat appreciated Mathias Mpuuga for the proposed electoral reforms and provisions towards having free, fair and credible elections.
He stated that the reforms are still going to undergo further scrutiny under the party’s relevant organs including the National Executive Committee for approval and mentioned the importance of popularizing the reforms to the public and are open to collaboration with likeminded parties.
Mathias Mpuuga discussed the urgency on the electoral reforms stating that there needs to be a change in the how the next elections are conducted referring to the halt in fraudulent transition of power.
Patrick Amuriat asserted that the two parties have come together with the common interest of creating reforms aimed at fostering focus on transition, however it is not determined yet whether the two parties are to make an alliance.
He mentioned some of the reforms that were presented in the discussion including the change in how presidential votes are tallied in the different parts of the country and mentioned more of those.
