An NRM party director (National Coordinators Forum) Fred Mwesigye Isanga talked to the Magara Darious the Managing editor of eastafricanwatch.net in a Q and A interview today. Read the details below;
What is the NRM party doing in Kampala to win again?
We are working for the people of Buganda and Uganda in general. You know the NRM party in the early years was a darling of people of Buganda but we have been dropping support. However, we are working hard and steadfastly to make sure we get to good books of the people in Buganda region. Our loss here has been generally attributed to lack of good coordination but otherwise government has worked for the people in this region.
So, what have you done for them?
Buganda region has been a beneficiary of all government programs that have been implemented country wide. Talk about Operation Wealthy Creation (OWC), Plan for modernization of Agriculture (PMA), Emyoga and PDM. It has benefited from seed schools, health services and now the road infrastructure- Kampala roads are being worked on in all divisions.
How are you planning to win again here (Buganda)?
I humbly propose that the party appoints capable chairmen other than going for elections which divide our supporters and leaders and the active ones can be re-appointed the sleepy ones be replaced. In here I am talking about leaders in districts and Divisions, and then these leaders can go on to identify other capable leaders below them who can work with them and for the party. But off course we need very committed cadres to take up these offices who are very patriotic.
Have party primaries been costly?
Ohh yes, they have been so costly and sometimes are supporters are scattered. So, we can save the monies in some areas and have good leaders just appointed.
What about coordination?
Very good question in Buganda we have lost support gradually because of lack of coordination. We are trying to harmonize our various supporters in different groups to harmonize them and when this is done, the NRM party will shine here again.
What are you predicting in the next elections?
I Predict that NRM will win in Buganda with over 85% support across all elective seats. But I call on all our party foot soldiers to work hard and to be selfless for the party and work with determination.

On youths’ programs what have you done?
Statehouse has opened a number of skilling hubs, these are aimed at making the youths job creators. We are trying to make the youths change their mindsets to make them innovative and gradually they will change and get into the money economy. The youths are being trained in various technical fields of mechanics, foods and beverages, mental fabrications, wood works, tailoring and etc. Boda boda are also to be supported to acquire bikes cheaply.
How about the girls?
Statehouse has been very keen to supporting the girls and their empowerment is tangible. We have been having the affirmative action on Makerere University entry points, we have also several skilling hubs that in a special way target girls.
Will you be contesting for MP in Nakaseke North?
Yes, I have plan to contest in Nakaseke North for the MP seat. I want to lobby, serve our people. I also want to stop land grabbers and work towards poverty eradication and for social economic change. The voters in this constituency have given me a warm welcome and I request them to trust and elect me in 2026 as their MP and I can assure them that they will not regret it.
What are your last remarks?
The NRM secretariat, is conducting a Voter’s Register Display. And it is still going on, but, unfortunately, our people are yet to embrace this exercise fully. Kindly do so please, my humble request to you all, is go, straight to fulfill this exercise, for the good of our communities, and our country Uganda and also for the NRM Party. Let all of us the NRM party members register in the Yellow books, let all of us participate in this exercise to ensure we establish a clean and smart national party register.
Lastly, i appeal to all Ugandans to support the NRM party in the next elections. The NRM government has brought peace and stability and some development. Let them give President Yoweri Museveni and his team chance to serve them more. It is true we have some gaps but we can always make good and better. Let our people not try to give leadership roles to be people who have not been tested, the NRM party has tested and capable leaders.
