The Member of Parliament for Bufumbira North, Honorable Kamara John Nizeyimana, has been arrested over alleged electoral violence in Kisoro District.
According to the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, Hon. Kamara was arrested together with his military bodyguard and several of his supporters on Tuesday, 25th November 2025, at around 2:00pm.
He said the group is being held over electoral violence–related offences.
Maate explained that earlier that day, at around 9:00am, the Bufumbira North parliamentary contestant, Rtd CP Habyara, reported to Nyarubuye Police Station that one of his supporters, Eragena Emmanuel, had been assaulted by supporters of Hon. Kamara at Kageyo/Rugabano Trading Centre.
The Officer-in-Charge of Nyarubuye Police Station, CPL Obworot Samuel, together with PC Mandali Charles, responded to the scene.
On arrival, they reportedly found the victim tied up, bleeding, and locked inside one of Hon. Kamara’s vehicles.

Maate said that when the officers attempted to rescue the victim, they were assaulted, held at gunpoint and disarmed. PC Mandali was also arrested and bundled into the same vehicle with the victim.
Kisoro Central Police Station then dispatched a team that intercepted the two vehicles and escorted them to the main station.
Maate confirmed that Hon. Kamara, his bodyguards and several of his supporters are now in custody at Kisoro Central Police Station.
He added that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
