A resident of Banda Zone in Makerere I Parish, Kawempe Division, has petitioned the Electoral Commission (EC), requesting an investigation into the recently concluded LC I Chairperson election and calling for the Commission to hear complaints raised by voters before confirming the final outcome.
In a formal letter addressed to the Electoral Commission Chairperson through the Kawempe Division Returning Officer, Mr. Moses Mukule alleged that the election in Banda Zone was affected by irregularities, violence, and procedural concerns that, according to the complainant, may have compromised the credibility of the exercise.

Among the concerns raised are claims that voting started later than the officially communicated time, allegations that the voting venue differed from the gazetted polling station, reports of violence and disruption at the polling centre, and accusations that individuals from outside the area interfered with the electoral process.
The petition also alleges that insecurity at the polling station created tension among voters and that election officials were overwhelmed during the exercise. The complainant has called upon the Electoral Commission to thoroughly investigate the matter and, if necessary, consider nullifying the election results in Banda Zone.
The letter was copied to several offices, including the Electoral Commission Registrar for Kawempe Division, the District Police Commander (DPC) Wandegeya, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), the Resident City Commissioner (RCC), and the NRM leadership in Kawempe Division.
The Electoral Commission has not yet publicly responded to the specific allegations contained in the petition. Under Uganda’s electoral framework, complaints relating to elections may be submitted to the relevant authorities for investigation and appropriate action. The Commission has previously emphasized the importance of conducting Local Council elections peacefully and in accordance with electoral guidelines. (Electoral Commission)
