Arsenal are expected to strengthen their midfield in this summer’s transfer window.

The Gunners need to be active on the market in the coming months. They need reinforcements in multiple areas of the pitch, but midfield might just be the priority.

The Gunners have allowed

 Mohamed Elneny

to leave the club, while

Thomas Partey and Albert Sambi Lokonga have been placed on the ‘chopping block’

.

That leaves just

 Declan Rice

and

 Jorginho

in defensive midfield, which is simply not enough options for the 2023/24 season.

Now, an update has emerged on Arsenal’s midfield targets.

 Arsenal

have been linked with plenty of midfielders since the turn of 2024.

 Mikel Arteta

, who was a midfielder himself, knows that his side need to strengthen the middle of their park, and a top-quality addition is a necessity.

The Gunners will either have to sign a number six to help push Rice further up the pitch or bring in a box-to-box midfielder, which would mean the England international will have to accept a deeper role.

Reports have claimed that

Arteta will hold talks with Rice to determine which position he will mostly play

in next season.

 GiveMeSport

have now shared an update on the midfielders Arsenal are interested in.

Newcastle United star

 Bruno Guimaraes

is a target for the Gunners, but the report claims that move is looking unlikely now.

Guimaraes’s preferred destination is said to be Manchester City

, not Arsenal.

Another midfielder the Gunners are interested in is

 Martin Zubimendi

of Real Sociedad. However, that move doesn’t look like either. Reports have claimed that

Arsenal are backing away from that deal

.

GMS then claim that Everton’s

 Amadou Onana

is the player Arsenal are more likely to sign. They have opened a dialogue with those involved to see if a deal is possible.

Onana has impressed on multiple occasions since joining

 Everton

from Lille in 2022.

The midfielder, who is currently away on international duty with Belgium at Euro 2024, has all the qualities you would want from a deep-lying midfielder, and it’s no surprise that he is of interest to Arsenal.

The one thing that stands out about Onana is his size – he is 6ft 5in tall. However, what’s incredible is that he is absolutely rapid despite being so big.

Onana’s top speed in the 2023/24 season was 36.65 km/h (

 Premier League’s official website

). That’s faster than every single player at Arsenal.

The Gunners need a complete midfielder this summer and in Onana, they have a player who’s quick, strong, good on the ball and incredible in the air. He’s as complete as they come.
