Canon Mathew Rukikaire Installed as Kabale University Chancellor

Former Minister of Privatisation, Canon Mathew Rukikaire, has been officially installed as the Chancellor of Kabale University following his appointment by President Yoweri Museveni in late 2025.

Rukikaire succeeds Prof. Mondo Kagonyera, whose term ended on April 28, 2025.

The installation ceremony was presided over by Vice President Rtd Maj Jessica Alupo, who represented President Museveni. In her remarks, Alupo commended Kabale University for its growing reputation in delivering professional training, particularly in science education, tourism, and information technology.

She noted that the institution plays a critical role in equipping students with skills necessary for national development.

Canon Rukikaire takes office

Outgoing Chancellor Prof. Kagonyera praised the university community, especially students, for upholding discipline and consistently demonstrating commitment to academic excellence.

In his acceptance speech, Chancellor Rukikaire expressed gratitude for the appointment and pledged to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor. He acknowledged President Museveni, the Visitor of the University, for his leadership and support to the institution.

Rukikaire also reflected on Uganda’s historical journey, referencing the NRA bush war as a significant chapter in shaping the country’s present trajectory.
