The Ministry of Works and Transport (MoWT) has announced upcoming drainage and pavement improvement works along the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway.
The affected areas include the Exit Ramp at Kajjansi towards the Old Entebbe Road and Kilometre 17+000 near the Pepsi Cola factory (Busega-Mpala section).
Waiswa said in a statement on Friday evening that these locations have been impacted by underground water seepage, weakening the pavement and causing surface degradation.
The project is being handled under a warranty guarantee obligation by the China Construction and Communications Company Ltd (CCCC), the original contractor for the expressway.
The planned works will involve installing subsurface drains to remove water from beneath the pavement, milling and resurfacing affected sections, and constructing edge kerbs to direct surface water into proper drainage channels.
According to the MoWT, the maintenance works will take 14 days, concluding on March 12, 2025.
The contractor has been instructed to implement strict traffic management measures to minimize disruptions and ensure smooth vehicle flow during the construction period.
Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, a key infrastructure link experiencing increased traffic volumes of approximately 28,000 vehicles daily.
“We apologize for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience as we undertake these critical road maintenance works,” said Waiswa, adding, “Our priority is to ensure a durable and safe road network, and we are working closely with the contractor to minimize disruptions to road users.”
