To the Rt Honorable Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda
Hon Anita Annet Among,
On such a special date, it is a pride for me, on behalf of the Cuban deputies, to convey to the people of Africa our most sincere congratulations on the occasion of the celebration that we commemorate today.
We celebrate the fraternal ties with the African continent, which we feel are an essential part of Cuban history and culture, forged with the vital contribution of the hundreds of thousands of children of Africa brought by force and as slaves to Cuba, many of whom they joined the wars for independence from Spanish colonialism.
Our deepest feelings of love and admiration are with the continent and its people on this day. From you we receive as an inheritance courage, simplicity, honor and that fills us with healthy pride for feeling part of you, as Fidel always highlighted, since the beginning of the Cuban Revolution.
We are inspired by the more than 300 thousand Cuban internationalist combatants who fought against injustice, domination and Apartheid on the continent, of which more than 2 thousand lost their lives in this fight.
We also wish to thank the support received in our fight against the blockade, by our African brothers, who every year vote unitedly in favor of the resolution before the United Nations General Assembly that demands the cessation of this criminal policy imposed by the United States against our country.
Likewise, we appreciate the resolutions approved by the African Union that call for the immediate lifting of the blockade and removing Cuba from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, as well as the numerous pronouncements of governments, parliaments, political parties, solidarity associations, and other entities. and individuals who, from all corners of the continent, stand in solidarity with the Cuban people.
I wish to conclude this message by reiterating that Cuba will always be alongside the causes defended by the people of Africa.
I confirm that Cuba’s relations with Africa are indestructible and that, faithful to our principles and loyal to the history shared with the African continent, we will continue to strengthen the ties of cooperation and solidarity for the benefit of our people.
Long live the Brotherhood between Cuba and Africa!
