The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has said they will block a delegate’s conference organized by the party’s national chairman, Wasswa Birigwa, on the grounds that it was not authorized by the proper party processes and structures.
In a radio interview with KFM, FDC president Patrick Amuriat stated that they will instruct their delegates to refrain from participating in the September 19th conference.
He further warned that delegates who defy this directive could face sanctions according to the party’s constitution.
Amuriat explained that the FDC constitution outlines steps that can be taken in response to leaders who act in contradiction to party rules.
The ongoing political crisis within FDC, which has raged for months, intensified last month with plans for two competing national delegate conferences planned by the two groups.
One conference was called by Chairman Birigwa while the other was called by the chairperson of the party’s electoral commission, Toterebuka Boniface.
While the two planned conferences have different agendas laid out, both require substantial financial resources to accommodate the attendance of over 1,700 delegates travelling from across Uganda to participate but of course those who seem to have vied off are those of Katonga who are acting outside the party constitution.
Birigwa has sided with the breakaway group led by Hon Ssemuju Nganda.
Un confirmed information from the FDC ‘tova kumain’ (Najjanankubi) seem to indicate that Birigwa’s illegal meeting will be stopped.
Some members of FDC wondered why a serious party meeting could be convened at the beach where people consider to be a place of leisure.
Meanwhile it has been reported that Ssemujju Nganda has said that NUP leaders should come and help resolve the problems in FDC party sparking some members of the public to wonder why a young party would be called to help solve leadership wrangles in an order and well established party such as FDC.
