The mortal remains of Tooro’s fallen King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV have arrived at Entebbe International Airport as the kingdom begins preparations to lay its former monarch to rest.
The aircraft carrying the remains of King Oyo arrived at Entebbe International Airport at 10:00am on Friday, September 4, 2026.
President Museveni is at the airport to receive the remains, alongside the Queen Mother and government officials.
Uganda Police draped the casket in the national colours and Tooro Kingdom colours before wheeling it through a guard of honour mounted at the airport.
President Museveni later paid his final respects to the fallen king and laid a wreath before the casket was taken to a waiting helicopter.
The helicopter is scheduled to transport the remains and accompanying family members and officials to Kyegegwa District, where the next phase of the funeral programme will take place.
King Oyo, who became king of Tooro at the age of three in 1995, died in the US on August 27.
Last week, President Museveni declared three days of national mourning from Friday, September 11 to 13 with the Omukama to be laid to rest on Saturday, September 12.
