Counsel Dan Musinguzi Nabaasa, the hopeful for Kabale Municipality, has today fulfilled his pledge of 100 bags of cement, which he made on Easter Sunday this year.
The cement was officially handed over to Canon Milton Nkurunungi, the Kigezi Diocesan Secretary, and Rev. Benon Agaba during a brief ceremony held at the Mothers’ Union grounds in Central Division, Kabale Municipality.
While handing over the donation, Counsel Nabaasa explained that he made the pledge during the Easter Sunday service at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Rugarama. He had committed to contributing 100 bags of cement to support the ongoing construction of a diocesan commercial building (mall) in Kabale Municipality.
Counsel Nabaasa expressed his appreciation to the Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, the Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, for spearheading development initiatives aimed at generating income for the church.
He noted that the church has traditionally relied on offertory collections but is now exploring additional income-generating avenues. He emphasized that such initiatives—like the commercial building under construction—will ensure financial sustainability for the church, especially during times of crisis when regular operations may be disrupted.
“This building will help generate additional income for the church,” he said.
Canon Milton Nkurunungi, the Kigezi Diocesan Secretary, while receiving the cement, thanked Counsel Dan Nabaasa for fulfilling his pledge, noting that the donation will significantly support the continuation of the ongoing construction works.
He also thanked God for the progress being made on the diocesan shopping mall. Nkurunungi revealed that the construction has so far reached the stage of laying sand on the first floor, and the cement will be vital in pushing the project forward.
The construction of the commercial building (shopping mall), which is located along the Kabale–Kisoro Road, is projected to cost UGX 3.1 billion. The new structure is expected to generate income for the diocese and support its long-term financial sustainability.
