“I have, with great sadness, learnt of the death of His Excellency John Pombe Magufuli. He was a dedicated leader who believed in and worked for the economic empowerment of East Africans,” Museveni said yesterday.

The 61-year-old leader had not been seen in public for more than two weeks, and rumors have been circulating about his health, with many especially opposition politicians in Tanzania saying he had contracted Covid-19.

Museveni who was accompanied by his wife Janet Kataha Museveni said Tanzanians and Africans must still move on saying during Uganda’s NRA liberation struggle they lost important colleagues but pressed on and they have succeeded.

He said this while in Daresalam where he joined others African leaders to pay tribute to Tanzania’s late President and hero Pombe Magufuli.

Magufuli’s body will be laid to rest this Friday but his achievements in poverty eradication stand tall and he has demonstrated that it is possible to fight corruption in Africa.
