Mawokota North MP Hillary Kiyaga alias Dr Hilderman has said they will fight so that the Marijuana bill if it is to be passed by the Ugandan Parliament, it must benefit all not targeting rich people only.
He said it is known that some local people grow marijuana although it is against the law and asked why Parliament should only license a few rich people to grow it and maybe sale it for medical use both locally and abroad.
“Our people grow Marijuana and the laws we are to make must not exclude them from benefiting from its trade.
We did not pass it quickly because some people wanted to have it exclusively for some rich people and we refused “he said today.
Dr Hilderman (above in photo) made the remarks during the end of year party of the staff of National Farmers of Leadership Centre (NFLC) at Kampirigisa as the chief guest.
He spoke in a mixture of English and Luganda. He said they are being hindered by government bureaucracy to do some government projects. Bute Health centre was recently destroyed by heavy rains and winds getting its roofs ripped off but that he cannot repair it because it’s a government facility that has procedures for it to be repaired.
When asked how she would handle Amelia Kyambadded if she shot back seeking reelection come 2026, he declined to comment on it.
Maj. Gen David Kyomukama the permanent secretary of the ministry of Agriculture asked the leadership of NFLC to be self sustaining and to be a practical farmers learning skills centre. Maj Kyomukama was represented by Mark Selemba the MAAIFs Human resource boss.
The Principal of NFLC Mr. Okwaja John Bosco he said NFLC has been mainstreamed into public service and all staff appointed and confirmed. The facility has hosted much training both international and local including trainees from Eritrea and the republic of Burundi. He asked stakeholders to help tamarc Kampirigisa road from the Kampala –Masaka high way.
The Chief Administrative officer of Mpigi district Kanyarutokye Moses said he is proud of NFLC but wants the district farmers to learn skills form it as its host.
The Ugandan government has some plans to legalise the growing of Marijuana although known to be an illegal drug, so that it can be grown and sold controllably for trade and health use locally and abroad.
