In the vibrant world of Ugandan gospel music, few ministers command the stage with as much raw, explosive energy as Kasujja Samuel, popularly known to his audience as Kyumakya Yesu. Renowned for his unique style of jumping and dancing while ministering, Kyumakya Yesu is an artist whose ministry is literally shaking foundations—and breaking stages.

Behind the high-energy performances that define his ministry today lies a powerful story of survival, deep gratitude, and an unwavering commitment to serving God with all his physical strength.

A Miraculous Deliverance from the Verge of Death

Kyumakya Yesu’s journey into gospel music is deeply rooted in a dramatic personal testimony. Born and raised in Kamuganja village, along the Sanje-Mutukura Road in the Greater Masaka region, his life took a defining turn in 1994.

“I was about to die, suffering from witchcraft,” Kyumakya Yesu recalls.

Relief arrived when a gospel crusade pitched camp in their village. His brother, Latimu Mpozza, brought the visiting pastors to their home to pray for the dying young man.

“They prayed for me, and God healed me instantly,” he testifies. The miracle did not stop there. “The following day, even my daddy, who was a chronic drunkard, got saved. From that day, things started changing day by day.”Channeling King David’s Radically Energetic Praise

Driven by overwhelming gratitude for his deliverance and the gift of salvation, Kasujja chose to express his thankfulness through music and dance. He draws his heavy-stepping performance inspiration directly from scripture.

“In the Bible, there was a king called David who danced for the Lord until his garments fell down,” he says passionately. “I love to serve Him with all my strength and life. He alone deserves the praise, worship, and adoration.”

However, this absolute dedication to dancing with “all his strength” (“orwokuzinira mukama namanyi gange gonna nokubuka enyo”) has led to some incredibly unusual accidents. To date, Kyumakya Yesu has physically broken seven wooden dancing stages during his live ministrations.

Recalling a notable crusade in Kilinya, he shares:
“I danced and jumped too much and the stage collapsed. My leg got stuck deep inside the broken wooden platform while my other leg remained up! It was a tough moment, but I didn’t stop. I kept right on singing. Passersby saw what was happening, came over to the crusade, and many people actually gave their lives to Christ that day.”

Ministry Triumphs and Trial by Fire

The road has not been without its structural and legal speed bumps. Aside from the physical hazards of collapsing platforms, Kyumakya Yesu once spent a night in a Jinja prison.

While rehearsing a new track overnight inside a church in Mafubira, local police officers arrested him under charges of noise pollution. Before booking him into the jail cells, the officers forced him to patrol the streets with them for the remainder of the night.

Despite the setbacks, his musical career has blossomed into a global ministry. Supported by his wife and blessed with a beautiful family of sons and daughters, the artist has watched God open immense doors.

Through his music career, he has successfully advanced his own academic studies and travelled extensively across the continent—ministering in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Botswana, and Zambia. He is currently preparing for his first European ministry tour to Italy.

Furthermore, he has turned his success into a blessing for others by supporting needy children with school fees, mentoring up-and-coming gospel talents, and receiving unexpected blessings from followers, including gifts of motor vehicles.

Looking Ahead: The Vision for “Winners House”

Kyumakya Yesu is far from finished. Looking forward, the energetic praise leader is working on expanding his ministry’s infrastructure. His future goals include opening a dedicated music school, establishing a state-of-the-art music recording studio, and planting a new church ministry to be named Winners House Worship Center.

And when his earthly assignments are done, the stage-breaking minister already knows exactly what he will be doing at the gates of heaven.

“I am well prepared with my heavenly song,” he smiles. “It goes: ‘Hareruyah Hareruyah Hareruyah ozzanna omwana gwendiga’ (Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hosanna to the Lamb of God).”
