The Embattled and now controversial Buhweju County Member of Parliament Hon. Francis Mwijukye is a politician who might be in the news for some time.
Ask me why? as you read this story, our reporter has exclusively learnt that Hon Mwijukye at the weekend visited Rwanda to attend international football and also conducted some business at the Ugandan -Rwanda Embassy.
Sources reveal that although he said was in some pain being that he had not a broken leg he was forced to move to Rwanda because he had been cleared by Parliament and that was upon his discharged from Nakasero Hospital in Kampala earlier.
“He speaks few words, so he was mostly quite and in a poor mood because of pain. He didn’t want to remove his cape from his head because it has several cuts that he incurred during the land dispute attack in Buhweju district a few weeks ago” a source said,
The young Legislator move to Rwanda for sports sparked controversy as many wondered how a supposedly bedridden MP could travel out of Ugandan and now see him like a film commando or star such as Naija.
Some journalists who learnt about Hon Mwijukye’s visit to Rwanda wondered how he quickly got cured to travel for sports.
Mwijukye and some Ugandan Politicians mainly from the NRM party were attending a diplomatic tournament between East and Central Africa and Versus West Africa at the national stadium in Kigali. The match ended 1:1 and went for penalties and West Africa won.
The visit into the tournament is to cement relations with Rwanda and other countries involved.
Sources said that although Hon Mwijukye is an Opposition legislator of Forum for Democratic Change- FDC he allegedly has good friends in government and is said to be also a friend of Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba. He is also linked to a big cabinet minister who hails from western Uganda.
Remember in a few days ago Hon Mwikukye issued a statement demanding an explanation from the Police in what he termed as Police support to ‘land grabbers.
Hon. Mwijukye points out that the blood he shed at the hands of what he claimed to criminal gangs should be the last drop shed in Buhweju over land disputes.
He had been referring to the battering he received during his attack and involvement in a land fight on May 12th 2024 at St. Jude, Rwanyamabale Catholic Church in Buhweju District in a land dispute in which he was critical injured.
The MP should have indeed been without an escort and nor a driver which is not clear whether he is entitled to them or not and whether he believes in working alone.
And it is said that when the confrontation started at the church, most of the people he was addressing left him in the hands of those that claim historic ownership of this land. Frank Kamugisha and his son Edwin, a lawyer who are insisting that the MP invaded them denied beating up the maverick MP.
The confrontation in which stones and other harmful equipment were used in the fight also left a TV West journalist, Kyarisiima, with minor injuries and her camera and laptop destroyed. About ten other people also sustained injuries.
It must also be remembered that the MP was attacked in a nearby constituency one represented by Hon Eprahim Biraro who had not been invited nor informed about the land despite meeting at the church in his constituency which is usually courteous.
It is not therefore clear wether he invaded another Political constituency in the guise of being part of the catholic church leadership in the district prompting the beating which has been widely interpreted as a protest action against his un controlled political movements and bad behavior.
Hon Biraro could not be reached for a comment about the land dispute and attack but it appears Hon Mwijuye was extending a hand to Hon Biraro’s opponent who is believed to be using the Catholic church land conflict issues to gain popularity and ground of accessing the constituency in his MP bid ahead of the 2026 national polls.
The said MP aspirant postures as a development pursuant yet all this time he has not helped to develop the district which remains un reached and now is almost referred to as the Karamoja of western Uganda, according to locals.
Sources said that Hon Mwijukye will be travelling to India on Tuesday next week for further and specialized treatment there.
He could not be reached for comment on his issues which are turning out to be dramatic every time.
Hon Mwijukye who is like an Aide to Dr Kizza Besigye belongs to the Katoga group which recently broke away from FDC party accusing its present leadership of receiving dirty money from state house.
Some people have been left to wonder who is eating more from government if Hon Mwijukye has such connections to government which he attacks most often.
