THE race for the Nakaseke North Parliamentary seat has gained momentum with Mwesigye Fred Isanga a son of a prominent resident and NRM historical, Mzee Isanga, expressing interest to replace the incumbent office bearer, Enock Nyongore in 2026 national elections.
Mwesigye Fred Isanga whose father Mzee Isanga greatly contributed towards the NRA liberation war of the 1980s, says he wants to help his constituents to have access to better social services especially roads, health facilities and agro processing factories.
Hailing from Kyambogo village, in Ngoma sub county, Mwesigye boats of being the ‘true son of the predominantly cattle keeping Nakaseke North, having been born, studied and mobilized for NRM support in the area.
A political novice but nevertheless a household name in Nakaseke, Mwesigye arrived to a thunderous welcome from NRM and PLAU supporters who on Sunday converged in Semuto town to lay joint strategies for next year’s general elections.
In addition to being an active NRM and PLU mobilizer for Central region and Nakaseke district, Mwesigye is also credited for the major role he played in promoting the Kapeeka based Nakaseke industrial park which is the biggest single economic entity in Nakaseke.
In addition to incumbent Enock Nyongore who is seeking a second term, Mwesigye will also face Wilber Ahebwa, a university professor who has also expressed interest to contest for the same seat.
All the three aspirants are members of the ruling NRM party, which is also the dominant party in the area.
Nakaseke North Constituency, a stronghold of the NRM, includes the sub-counties of Kinyogoga, Ngoma, Kinoni, and Ngoma Town Council.
The aspirants, in readiness for the primaries and the subsequent general elections, have engaged in extensive community outreach, generously donating to churches, schools, health centers, and empowerment groups to garner support.
Nyongore, in 2021 stood unopposed as Nakaseke North Member of Parliament but this time Mwesigye will make him pack his bags.
Mwesigye in a separate interview said he has received great welcome, that is to his candidature and that he and the locals want to work together to cause change and development.
