As someone deeply passionate about technology and WordPress, my journey has been profoundly shaped by the unwavering support of Mr. William Derek Jackson, CEO of MetaverseWP. Over the years, he has been a pillar of encouragement, sponsoring my attendance at numerous WordCamp events. This year alone, he generously sponsored my participation in two major WordCamps: WordCamp Lira and WordCamp Nairobi. Both were incredible experiences, but WordCamp Nairobi left an indelible mark on my journey.

MR.WILLIAM JACKSON.

The Experience of a Lifetime at WordCamp Nairobi

WordCamp Nairobi was a gathering on an international scale, bringing together a diverse community of WordPress enthusiasts, web designers, business owners, and tech professionals. This event provided a unique platform for people from different walks of life to connect, share insights, and grow. One of the highlights was meeting Mr. Kafreg, a speaker from Nepal, who not only became a friend but also introduced me to his culture. Until then, I had known little about Nepal, and this interaction opened my mind to the global reach and community spirit WordPress fosters.

Interacting with the Automattic team from WordPress.com was another memorable part of the experience. They shared valuable insights and encouraged me to keep pushing forward, even recalling moments like our victory at the Masaka Showcase competitions, where SEO learning prizes were awarded. These encounters were both humbling and inspiring, reminding me of the growth potential within the WordPress ecosystem and the exciting opportunities to deepen my technical skills.

The organization at WordCamp Nairobi was remarkable. Held in the impressive campus auditorium of Daystar University—Kenya’s largest private university—the atmosphere was energizing and perfectly suited for such a large-scale event. From the well-organized MCs to the interactive sessions, every aspect of the event was planned with excellence. Over the course of two days, I had the chance to learn not only about WordPress but also about freelancing, online entrepreneurship, and the power of effective networking.

Connections That Extend Beyond Technology

One of the beautiful aspects of WordCamp Nairobi was connecting with people from all over the world. A young Kenyan named Lithamothy and I recorded a one-on-one podcast, where we discussed our experiences, aspirations, and the excitement we felt for the event. These conversations, which started early each morning, enriched my understanding of different perspectives and built a bridge between our cultures and shared interests in WordPress.

Throughout the event, I actively participated on social media, helping to keep our community engaged with real-time updates under our event’s hashtag on X (formerly Twitter). I was thrilled to be one of the first to post about new sessions, inspiring talks, and key moments, which connected me further with others attending and following the event online.

A Heartfelt Thanks to Mr. William Derek Jackson

None of this would have been possible without the immense support of Mr. William Derek Jackson. His generosity extends beyond simple sponsorship; he believes in uplifting others and has unselfishly supported me through eight WordCamp events. For this, I am deeply grateful. In Africa, we say that “when one hand gives, the other should not know.” Mr. Jackson embodies this proverb, supporting us with humility and a genuine desire to see African tech talent thrive.

As I grow in my WordPress and technology journey, I am determined to give back to the community that has given me so much. I aspire to be a key contributor in the Kampala WordPress community and, someday, to build and lead a company of my own that supports and uplifts others in technology. For now, I owe a huge part of my progress to Mr. Jackson, and I thank him wholeheartedly for investing in my future.

For God and My Country, I stand inspired and grateful. This is only the beginning of a journey fueled by kindness, mentorship, and the power of community.
