Netanyahu says his support for decisive military action against Iran comes from hard personal experience. He recalls losing his brother in combat and being wounded himself while fighting terrorists and freeing hostages from a hijacked plane. He also remembers holding an 18‑year‑old soldier as he died in his arms.
He says these experiences taught him how terrible war is and how high the human cost can be. Nonetheless, he argues that sometimes war is necessary to protect free societies from those who would destroy them. In his view, Iran’s leaders fall squarely into that category.
Netanyahu stresses that Israel and the United States target “mass terrorists,” not civilians, while Tehran deliberately targets civilians. He warns that if Iran ever had ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads, the resulting mass death would prompt future generations to ask why no one acted in time.
Benjamin Netanyahu said: “I have lost a brother in war. I myself fought terrorists and was wounded liberating hostages from a hijacked plane. I held a fellow soldier in my arms when he was 18 and he died in my arms. I know the cost of war. But sometimes war is necessary to protect us from people who will destroy us. The mass murderers in Tehran target civilians; we in Israel and America target the mass terrorists. If these people had weapons of mass death, you would have mass death, and people would ask, ‘Why didn’t you act in time?’”
