The Executive Director of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), Eng. Silver Mugisha, has contributed UGX 15 million towards enhancing public sanitation and hygiene infrastructure in Rwentuha Town Council.
The financial boost was announced by Bushenyi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Emmy Ngabirano during the 9th Bushenyi District Community Dialogue (Baraza), held at the Rwentuha Town Council Office grounds. The baraza marks the ninth outreach conducted since May as district leaders continue engaging local communities across all sub-counties and town councils to enhance service delivery.
Welcoming the support, Rwentuha Town Council Mayor Fred Twinomugisha Mbiika explained that the donation will fund the construction of modern public sanitation facilities for local vendors recently relocated under government urban planning initiatives.
“These funds will go directly towards the construction of a public toilet facility for our market vendors who were recently relocated following the implementation of the government’s Trade Order initiative,” Mbiika reported.
Also Hon Frank Muhumuza, district councilor representing Rwentuha Town Council pledged to give bursaries to 3 pupils from each ward of the town council at Jane Foundation P/S to support and improve the education sector in the town council.
Highlighting the strategic location of the urban center, Bushenyi Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Phionah Sanyu stressed that maintaining high sanitation standards is critical for public health and regional tourism.
“Hygiene and sanitation across Rwentuha Town Council must be significantly improved,” Sanyu emphasized. “As a major urban center positioned along the main highway, Rwentuha serves as the primary entry gateway to Bushenyi District and sets the standard for our regional image.”
Addressing local government administration, Bushenyi District Chairperson Prosper Twebaze called on technical officers to foster transparency by actively involving newly elected local leaders in monitoring community development projects.
“I implore our technical staff to bring newly elected leaders on board during the supervision and implementation of all public projects,” Twebaze urged. “Inclusive oversight ensures accountability and better project delivery for our citizens.”
The community dialogue also addressed key local priorities, including improving learning outcomes in primary schools, nurturing youth talent, enforcing recovery of Parish Development Model (PDM) revolving funds, and safeguarding community security.
