In the villages of Konge and Kabuma hill, which have a population of over 1400, residents have been reeling from water scarcity despite the presence of piped water, but supply was virtually non-existent thus people had little choice but to fetch water from unprotected wells as animals.
It’s a similar story to some parts of Ndejje as the crisis kept on mounting day by day and people had to feel the brunt of this challenge.
To ensure continuous improvement in water supply, SMWS Eng Francis Kateeba together with TS Richard Mwesigye pitched camp at Buziga and Lukuli booster were the bigger pump was tripping due to low pressures and most notably the pump has been redundant for 6 months due to little water hence affecting the suction pressure.
Through collaboratively forming innovative ways to address the water stress issues in these areas, teams resolved to; installing a water tank at Konge hill to improve the supply, replacement of faulty valves, Installation of a DN100 and control valve on the distribution line among others.
After some tireless hours of testing, engaging in arguably fair decisions to call on alternative means and assessment of the causes of the problem, the teams were filled with joy after the pump at Lukuli started running.
Consequently, the teams were joined by the BM Salaama Ms Suzan Lamwaka, BM Ndejje Ms Harriet Atim and the BE Salaama Shadrack, who made a visit to some remote localities which were hit by the water crisis the previous months and the teams notified that they were now getting water after the interventions done earlier on today.
“We applaud NWSC-KW for living with us in empathy and genuinely collaborating with us during the times of crisis. We feel valued and safe and to the team from the branches we thank you for not giving up on us even when we used bad language,” says residents.
Areas benefited from the network configuration include; Kizungu, Boston, Luwafu, Lukuli, some parts of Kyengera, Nalumunye, Entebbe road, some part of Natete, Najjanankumbi among others.
“We thank the management for considering the aspect of human rights by working tirelessly to ensure supply reliability. We shall keep monitoring the behavior of the pump as we look forward to growing our water sales,” notes Ms Lamwaka.
“For the future, Eng Kateeba advised the teams not to sit back and relax and wait all the time for management to avail enough materials to solve their problems. “The success of Kampala water must all be about a YES and let’s focus for the better, ” he concluded.
The NWSC Managing Director Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha said their mission remains to sustainably and equitably provide cost effective quality water and sewerage services to the delight of all stakeholders while conserving the environment in Uganda.
