Tuhamire had reportedly made sexual advances to Atulinda which she rejected
Police are searching for a man identified as Brian Tuhamire over the murder of Mercy Atulinda, 37, the sister of Senior Superintendent of Police, Michael Kasigire.
The murder incident occurred on Thursday in Manyangwa Village, Gayaza sub-county in Wakiso District.
Family members say Atulinda was running a garage in Manyangwa where Tuhamire was employed.
Tuhamire had reportedly made sexual advances to Atulinda which she rejected.
According to the deceased’s sister, Jackline Arinaitwe, she received a phone call from Atulinda at 1:00am on Thursday appealing for help.
“Over the phone, I could hear my sister crying in a physical struggle,” said Arinaitwe.
The telephone line later went off.
The family members rushed to Manyangwa on Thursday morning where they discovered Atulinda’s dead body with a pillow covering her face.
It is suspected Tuhamire suffocated Atulinda with a pillow.
Kasigire urged the public to report any information that could lead to Tuhamire’s arrest to the nearest authorities.
He described his departed sister as “friendly” and “social.”
Cases of domestic violence have been on the rise in Uganda.
According to the Police’s annual crime report, a total of 17,698 cases of Domestic Violence were reported to Police in 2022 compared to 17,533 cases reported in 2021 thus giving a 0.94% increase in the volume of domestic violence registered.
A total of 301 cases of murder a s a result of domestic violence were reported to the Police in 2022 compared to 376 cases reported in 2021, giving a 19.9% decrease.
