Police officer murdered in Kabale

There was a somber mood at the Kabale Police Station in the Centre of Kabale Municipality   on Friday following the brutal murder of a Police officer who was guarding offices of the Electoral Commission, Kabale Branch.

The Kigezi Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, confirmed the murder and  identified the officer as SPC Baryabakabu Gracious. He was killed at an unknown time on Wednesday by unknown assailants.

According to Maate, Gracious 59, was found dead by his colleague who had gone to relieve him of his duty at around 7:00 am. The yet to be identified colleague also found out that Gracious’ gun SMG rifle No 565824456 had been taken with 30 rounds of ammunition.

His lifeless body was found in a container box on the Compound of the premises, with numerous injuries on the face. Maate said they suspect the assailants used a sharp object to pierce the deceased in the forehead before they tied his arms and legs with a rope made of rubber material.

Police led by the Kabale District Police Commander, Brian Ampere, Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations Department- OCCID, Scene of Crime Officers, visited the scene at the Electoral commission offices at Makanga hill and by the time of writing this story, they had been joined by a team of UPDF officers reportedly to strategize on the operation to hunt for the assailants.

After Postmortem was done, the deceased’s body has been taken to Kabale hospital mortuary. The case has been registered as Murder/ Aggravated robbery with reference number

Police said the case which is SD REF 18/28/01/2020 at Kabale Police Station is under investigation.  IGP Ochola’s men are some times  under attack.
