Earlier this month, the United Nations, in partnership with the Government of South Korea, convened a high-level summit bringing together global leaders, policymakers, and development practitioners to discuss pressing social and economic issues. Among the notable voices at this prestigious gathering was Pr. Dr. Stephen B. Kayongo, who represented African community empowerment and development leaders with distinction.
Pr. Dr. Kayongo, who currently serves as the Senior African Pastor and Academic Dean at the California River of Life University in Uganda, has established himself as a leading advocate for social transformation and inclusive development across the continent. At the UN platform, he highlighted Africa’s progress, challenges, and the pivotal role of local leadership in shaping sustainable development outcomes.
Beyond academia, Pr. Dr. Kayongo is also the National and International Coordinator of the SMU Community Works and Empowerment Program, a global initiative advancing education, empowerment, and community transformation. Additionally, he is the Senior Pastor of Nsangi Christian Fellowship, where his leadership has inspired countless lives through faith, mentorship, and community action.
Pr. Dr. Kayongo is widely respected for his commitment to inter-religious togetherness and harmony, regardless of belief. His work has consistently demonstrated that unity across faiths is a powerful force for development. Most recently, he was seen hosting Muslim leaders at his residence, a gesture that reinforced his belief in collaboration, respect, and coexistence as essential ingredients for building stronger communities.
Speaking at the UN summit, he underscored the importance of global partnerships, urging nations and institutions to work hand in hand with African leaders to ensure inclusivity, equity, and sustainability in development initiatives. His contributions at the summit not only gave Africa a stronger voice on the global stage but also showcased the unique role of faith-based and community leaders in driving social change.
