The Commissioner General of Prisons Dr Johnson Byabasheija has directed all staff to observe and adhere to standby class one period instructions that will commence on the 15th December, 2023 to 12th January 2024.
Byabasheija pointed out that they are entering the festive season which is normally characterized by excitement among prisoners and staff that end up leading to security challenges.
He directed all prisons across the country to adhere to the following rules according to the letter he signed on 8th December 2023 which are not limited to strengthening and enhancing security, intelligence and coordination with other security agencies as they remain vigilant in this festive season.
He ordered them to also conduct routine patrols around and within the barracks, suspend hiring prisons for labour (Kibarua) in that period and also suspend prison officers staff leaves but exceptional cases to be handled by Regional prisons commanders.
In his letter, Byabashaija also suspended end of year staff parties for prison officers across the country and also ordered to restrict an authorized person from the prisons.
He warned prison officers to adhere to the guidelines as streamlined in the letter saying any officer who will breach them will be personally held responsible.
