Rukoki General Hospital receives neonatal items for effective eonatal care.
Rotary Club of Kasese, Snow Peaks with support from Rotary Club of Winchester in the UK has donated an assortment of neonatal items to Rukoki General Hospital in Kasese district as a way of giving back to the community.
While speaking at the handover of the items yesterday, the District Governor 9214 Uganda and Tanzania, Ddamulira Daniel Mukasa said that the Neonatal equipments including 5 infant incubators,3 patient monitors,1 oxygen cylinder,1 infant radiant warmer, to be used in the neonatal ward; are designed to support the vital functions, growth, and development of premature and unwell newborns at Rukoki general hospital.
The Kasese district LCV chairperson, Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi thanked the Rotarians for coming together and support the work of government, pledging total cooperation and that all the machines will be maintained in good mechanical conditions.
He acknowledged the challenge of limited infrastructure for effective neonatal care at the health facility,but pledged to ensure it is resolved.
The deputy RDC for Kasese in charge of Bukonzo County, Lt. Matte Magwara lauded the development partners for supporting government extending effective healthcare to the people.
He said the neonatal equipments will reduce the increased number of children who die every day due to lack of specialized machines during birth.
The President Snow Peaks Rotary Club of Kasese,Namulondo Zulaika appreciated the community and all the Rotarians for timely support to the people of Kasese who are in need.
Meanwhile, Dr. Loice Kabbyanga, the Deputy Medical Superintendent at the facility said last year, at least 1230 babies were delivered at the hospital with each neonate presenting different cases, sometimes with special care needed.
She said the hospital doesn’t have adequate facilities to give effective care to the neonates and appealed for urgent government support to put the necessary infrastructure to attend to them.
