A 38-year-old enrolled nurse at Mparo Health Centre IV in Rukiga District has been arrested on allegations that he raped a patient with 7-months pregnancy that had come for antenatal services.
The territorial Police in Rukiga District have arrested a health worker one Darius Orikiriza 38, an enrolled nurse attached to Mparo health centre IV for allegedly raping a twenty years old pregnant woman.
Orikiriza, resident of the health centre quarters, Mparo ward/ town council in Rwamucucu sub county Rukiga district allegedly raped a 20 year old Elizabeth Orishaba a resident of Maaya cell, Kitanga parish in Kashambya sub county Rukiga district.
According to the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, on 21st August 2023 at around 1Pm, the victim who is 7 months pregnant had gone for medical check up at the said medical facility, and was referred to scanning department which was being operated by now the suspect.
Maate adds that on arrival, she was directed to remove her clothes and was accordingly forced into canal knowledge.
The victim narrates that there after, she immediately informed the in charge of the facility who later informed Police for further management.
A team of detectives were dispatched commanded by the District Police Commander and OC CID who documented the scene, arrested the suspect, obtained swabs from the victim and the suspect by the health workers from the same facility for onward submission to GAL for analysis.
Maate told the press that inquiries into the case continue and a case of rape has been recorded at Rukiga Central Police station under file number CRB 361/2023.
