RUKIGA: Politics in Rukiga district keep getting tougher day by day, as you read this  two new candidates have thrown their hats into the ring.
The current LC V Vice Chairperson, Samuel Niwandinda, has announced his intention to contest for the Rukiga Chairmanship position in the 2026 general election.
Meanwhile, former Rukiga Woman MP aspirant, Hon Aturinda Elizabeth, has also announced her candidacy for the Woman MP seat in the same election.
Niwandinda’s decision to run against his boss, District Chairperson Mbabazi Robert Kakwereere, is reportedly due to the latter’s failure to provide regular public accountability of funds received from the central government and local revenue collection.

Niwandinda, who serves as the District Councilor representing Rwamucuucu Sub-County, expressed his disappointment with Kakwereere’s leadership, citing several unheeded advisories.
The developments sets the stage for a thrilling contest in the 2026 elections, with Niwandinda and Aturinda Elizabeth expected to inject fresh ideas and perspectives into the district’s politics.
As the campaign season heats up, residents of Rukiga District can expect a lively debate on the issues that matter most to them but also more resources.

But the Rukiga Woman MP seat contest is already having a giant Dr Sylvia T. Arinaitwe who has been loved by many and should hopeful win the race beating the incumbent Caroline Kamusime.
Dr Sylvia according to locals has set the development agenda for Rukiga, she does not just talk but has already worked and transformed Rukiga with development projects.
