Rukiga District Tea farmers’ cooperative limited is trying their best to lobby for tea seedlings from the government.
Speaking to the eastafricanwatch.net reporter , the newly elected Chairperson of the Association Kennedy Rwaboona, said that through the area Members of Parliament, they have requested that tea farmers in Rukiga district be provided with tea seedlings.
His comments come at a time when Rukiga district was declared among the 7 districts in Uganda that will have tea factories constructed in the area.
Rwaboona said over the years, some districts including Sheema, Buhweju among others have been receiving tea seedlings under National Agriculture Advisory Services (NAADS) which Rukiga district should also be considered.
“As the through the District Tea farmers cooperative limited leaders, we are trying under our means to reach our area member of the Parliament to request for us the government to provide tea seedlings to Rukiga district farmers” remarks Rwaboona.
Kabumburi Godwin a tea farmer and the Association Secretary said that the district has many farmers with empty lands who are willing to grow tea but only lacking seedlings.
Kakumbi added that having a tea factory in the District will see a number of people benefiting, hence growing their income status, creating Jobs among others.
“We are lucky as the district, soon the government will construct a Tea factory near us here, but the main challenge that remains is that we our farmers here don’t have seedlings” Kabumburi said.
