The 3rd UPDF Division spokesperson, Major Isaac Oware, confirmed the incident, stating that a vigilant resident had discovered the explosive and promptly alerted the local authorities.

Following the resident’s tip-off, a joint security team swiftly responded to the bomb scare. The area was cordoned off by trained bomb experts, who carefully retrieved the unexploded hand grenade for further examination.

Major Oware revealed that the hand grenade, which appeared to be brand-new, was found hidden in the grass, possibly discarded or concealed in the vicinity a few days earlier.

Major Oware expressed appreciation for the collaboration and vigilance demonstrated by the local leaders and residents. Their prompt reporting of the suspicious object to the security forces helped avert potential harm, as such explosives pose significant dangers if they were to fall into the wrong hands.

He urged the public to exercise caution and remain alert to unfamiliar or suspicious items they encounter.

One resident, Mr. Juma Gudoi, voiced his concerns, suspecting that unknown individuals had planted the grenade two days prior.

He emphasized the importance of handling such objects with care, underscoring the potential risks they pose. Mr. Gudoi commended the resident who discovered the explosive for their swift action in notifying the security personnel, which played a pivotal role in preventing a potential disaster.

This incident serves as a reminder of the crucial role that public vigilance and collaboration with security forces play in safeguarding communities. It underscores the necessity for individuals to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious items or activities they come across.

The coordinated efforts of the police and UPDF in effectively managing this situation demonstrate their commitment to preserving public safety and upholding peace and security in the region.
