The Kabale District LCV vice chairperson has called upon Parents and Guardians to support Children who become victims of the Covid 19 lockdown as schools reopen in January 2022.
Mrs. Miria Akakwansa Tugume is also the LCV councilor representing Kahungye and Butanda sub counties in the District.
Speaking to our reporter in her office at the District, Miria called upon the Public to remember the children who have spent almost two years at home need both physical and psychosocial support as schools resume.
Miria showed a lot of concern on girls who were impregnated during the covid 19lockdown. ‘Some girls were impregnated during the covid 19 lockdown and parents should allow such children to access education and provide other support needed’ Miria added.
Miria Said that during the lockdown, Domestic Violence in Families increased which resulted into killings of one another, parents abandoning their children and families where some people took it as an advantage to pregnant the girls
She urged the community, political and religious leaders to use their positions to counsel families from practicing and involving in Domestic Violence. And called upon the public to embrace the covid 19 vaccination campaign. Miria said that vaccination services/centers have been brought nearer in the community and can easily access them.
Miria called for continuous observance of the standard operating procedures set down by the Ministry of Health.
She further called upon parents and children to support their children with scholastic materials as schools reopen in January 2022.
Education institutions have been under lock since March 2020 following the presidential directives as a way of curbing down the widespread of covid-19 which has claimed many lives on the globe.
However, higher institutions of learning were opened in November 2021.
‘Schools are resuming on 10th January, let every parent/Guardian take their children back to school’ Miria said.
