NEWS– Kanungu Resident District Commissioner Ambrose Mwesigye Amanyire Mwesigye has urged people near boarders with Democratic Republic of Congo to be vigilant and report any suspected case of measles in their communities and if contracted with it to always seek immediate attention at the Health Centers.
RDC Mwesigye Amanyire made the remarks while addressing journalist following the Measels breakout in the district which has affected a total of 32 people and killed one child.
The RDC urged the media practitioners to circulate the information about measles and urged people to follow standard operating procedures which have been put in place by the health department.
He said that the District have put measures to stop the spread of measles within two weeks and said that they are organizing community engagements in all sub counties and town councils neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.
While speaking at the same event, Kanungu District Assistant District Health Officer Kato Besiisira said that Ministry of Health declared measles outbreak on 23rd June 2024 and 32 people have tested positive for measles in Kihembe Subcounty, Kanyantorogo Subcounty, Kanyantorogo Town council, Kanungu Town Council and Kihihi Town Council.
