In the crowd was Minister for Local Government Balaam Barugahara who called for renewed efforts to eradicate corruption and rebuild Uganda.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Balaam said Uganda and the wider African continent had faced numerous challenges, including Ebola outbreaks, the COVID-19 pandemic, drought and corruption.

“We are rebuilding our society from these challenges,” Balaam said, describing rebuilding as a call to serve, restore and transform lives.

He urged Ugandans not to focus only on identifying what has gone wrong, but to take responsibility for fixing the problems affecting society, strengthening communities and improving service delivery.

Balaam placed particular emphasis on corruption, calling for concerted efforts to eradicate the vice in Africa, especially in Uganda.

He said corruption has contributed to poor service delivery by diverting resources meant to benefit ordinary citizens.

Balaam also thanked Pastor Robert Kayanja, the chief organizer of the conference, for his prayers and leadership.

He recalled that when President Yoweri Museveni appointed him to his ministry, he was given a responsibility to help address challenges affecting young people and service delivery.

“When the President appointed me to that ministry, he told me, ‘Go and fix,’ and I am fixing those who have been stealing the Mwananchi’s money, thus affecting service delivery.”

He emphasized that the Big Fix Conference had come at a time when Uganda needed collective action to address corruption and other challenges affecting the country.

“With the Big Fix service and blessings, I am going to fix more,” he said.

Balaam also used the platform to pray for the country’s leaders. He called for healing and restoration for the First Lady, Janet Museveni, so that she could fully resume her responsibilities as minister and senior presidential adviser.

He also prayed for President Museveni, asking God to strengthen him so that he could continue carrying out his duties as President of Uganda.

Balaam extended prayers to his master General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the entire UPDF and armed forces, asking for God’s protection and guidance as they continue contributing to the nation’s stability.

He expressed confidence that the Big Fix Conference would contribute to a better and more prosperous Uganda, East Africa and Africa, particularly by inspiring people to take responsibility for fixing problems within their communities and institutions.

“Let us all unite and work for a stronger Uganda, East Africa and Africa at large,” he said.

Enenche teaches the way to wisdom

The national message of rebuilding was complemented by a sermon from Nigerian pastor Paul Enenche, who focused on what he described as “The Way of Wisdom.”

Enenche taught that wisdom is essential to overcoming challenges and making sound decisions. He outlined five foundations through which believers can pursue wisdom: the fear of the Lord, the Word of God, the Spirit of God, humility and prayer.

1. The fear of the Lord

Enenche identified the fear of the Lord as the beginning of wisdom. He explained that fearing God means respecting and reverencing Him, and that genuine wisdom begins with this relationship with God.

2. The Word of God

He described the Word of God as a “bank of wisdom,” emphasizing that wisdom is not merely acquired by hearing God’s Word but by putting it into practice.

He referred to Matthew 7:24, which compares a person who hears Christ’s words and puts them into practice to a wise man who builds his house on the rock.

Enenche explained that obedience to God’s Word provides a firm foundation for life.

3. The Spirit of God

The third foundation was the Spirit of God, which Enenche described as the Spirit of wisdom.

He connected this teaching to Isaiah 11:1–2, explaining that God’s Spirit enables people to understand His will and apply it correctly. According to the teaching, the Spirit helps believers develop sound judgment, make righteous decisions and exercise discernment.

The message emphasized that true wisdom ultimately comes from God rather than depending solely on human knowledge or experience.

4. Humility

Enenche explained that humility involves recognising that one does not know everything and being willing to receive guidance from others and from God.

He referred to Psalm 25:9, which says that God guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way.

Enenche warned that arrogance can prevent people from receiving advice because a person who is “full of himself” may be unwilling to listen or accept correction.

5. Prayer

The final foundation was prayer.

Enenche referred to James 1:5, which encourages those who lack wisdom to ask God, who gives generously.

He encouraged believers to seek God’s wisdom when beginning new ventures, facing difficult decisions or dealing with confusing circumstances.

According to Enenche, people should not rely solely on their own understanding when they face challenges. Instead, they should seek God’s direction for the right path.

Wisdom and the Big Fix

Enenche’s message closely connected with the broader theme of the conference.

Pastor Kayanja has presented the Big Fix Conference as a platform where people can seek solutions to challenges affecting different areas of life, including finances, families and spiritual wellbeing.  He spoke on Monday at the opening of the conference.
