The National Drug Authority (NDA) board is not a subject of investigation by the IGG the board chairman Dr. Medard Bitekyerezo has stated.
He also said that “the one attacking NDA board is bad mannered and I believe they will be punished by God. They have a sequence of writing negative stories on NDA every 3 years ”-
Dr. Medard Bitekyerezo said that he is a senior citizen and he does his work well and professionally.
“ I have never eaten any government money and we as the NDA board we don’t handle money but what I know the IGG is investigating the accounting officers of NDA and we have no problem with that” he added.
Dr. Bitekyerezo added that he has no communication that states that his board is under investigation and that they started working as a new board on the 20th of February 2026.
“ We are working and will be running our meeting as scheduled, but if government makes a communication that my board is under investigation we shall attend to it but until then we are working normally ” he added.

Dr. Bitekyerezo said there was nothing like inaugurating a new board because they are already working and that they have not be halted by anybody in government.
He spoke to the eastafricanwatch.net reporter in a phone interview this morning and was responding to stories in some sections of the social medial saying that his board had been halted.
Dr. Bitekyerezo however did not comment on allegations that him and his team have served at the board of a long while.

Dr Bitekyerezo’s brief statement below;
“NDA Board is in place. We don’t have any communication from IGG advising us not to conduct our meetings. Board does not touch money, we only look at budgets drawn by Management. We discuss and adopt budget for submission to Ministry for approval. We are a law abiding Board. We respect Government arms.
It is Management led by Executive Secretary to NDA under investigations, we are waiting for the out come of the investigation.
It is important to note that there is sequential whistle blowing related to NDA after every 3 years and this is the time. We are used to being black mailed but we continue to serve our country with honor“.
The eastafricanwatch.net reporter could not reach IGG for a comment on the above matter.
Details about NDA board operations duration;
According to the National Drug Policy and Authority Act (Cap. 206) of Uganda, the National Drug Authority (NDA) board members are appointed to serve a term of three years.
Key details regarding the board’s operation include:
- Tenure: Board members serve for three years and are eligible for re-appointment.
- Structure: The Authority is governed by a 17-person member board appointed by the Minister of Health.
- Meetings: The Drug Authority is required to meet for the discharge of its functions at least six times a year.
Note: While some sources have previously referred to a four-year term in different contexts (e.g., Wikipedia), the governing National Drug Policy and Authority Act specifies a three-year term. Additionally, new legislation (National Drug and Health Products Authority Bill, 2025) is currently being processed to modernize the NDA, but the 1993 Act remains the current, binding legal framework for tenure
