
In a major crackdown on corruption, the Anti-Graft Agency, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), has arraigned four individuals, including three Members of Parliament, before the Anti-Corruption Court.
Hon. Mawanda Michael Maranga (Igara East, Bushenyi District), Hon. Wamakuyu Ignatius Mudimi (Elgon County, Bulambuli District), Hon. Akamba Paul (Busiki County, Namutumba District), and Lawyer Kirya Julius of Kirya Company Advocates face charges of Diversion of Funds and Conspiracy to Defraud.
The accused allegedly conspired to divert over UGX 3.4 billion, meant for war loss compensation by the Government of Uganda to Buyaka Growers Cooperative Society, for their personal use.
They have been remanded until July 9, 2024.
