With just a few months left to the 2026 general elections, one of the most significant positions that the leading opposition party NUP must capture is the position of the Kampala Capital City Lord Mayor which has been occupied by Erias Lukwago since 2011.
Lukwago seeks to extend his reign to twenty years under the PFF ticket but in his path, he has to face off with Eng. Balimwezo Ronald Nsubuga who has already earned an endorsement from the NUP party.
The Nakawa East MP Eng. Balimwezo is a formidable opponent to Lukwago and pundits say his expertise in the field of Local Government which he is to bank on to send cry baby Lukwago into his political retirement.
In the previous 2021 polls, Lukwago survived by a whisker after Latif Ssebagala Sengendo pulled out of the race and he had to battle a last minute less popular Nabillah Naggayi Ssempala. But the coming of Eng. Balimwezo is to the disadvantage of Lukwago who has been relying on the politics of sympathy and populism. #KJPolitics
