Senior Pensioners have continued to push government as they demand for better payment of their pension benefits or money to have it paid without being affected by inflation.
Today the pensioners through their Lawyer Mwesigwa Rukutana & Co. Advocates presented to the court of Appeal a rejoinder to the respondent’s conferencing notes.
Mwesigwa Rukutana came armed with several lawyers from his chambers to martial the pensioners case. The court room at the second floor of the Court of Appeal block was almost filled by the pensioners who seemed to state very firmly that they are committed to their case and cause.
Senior counsel Rukutana appeared before the Court of Appeal judges that heard the case are; chaired by Hon Mr. Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi, Hon Lady Justice Hellen Obura, Hon, Mr. Dr. Justice Asa Mugenyi, Hon. Justice Jesse Byaruhanga and Hon Lady Justice Stella Alibateese.
The case was heard this morning and the Judges of the Court of Appeal said they will give their judgment by notice.
The pensioners also seemed happy to be meeting in court for a cause and they also socialized.
The eastafricanwatch.net reporter was also happy to meet and interact with the senior citizens in Court today who looked calm and hopeful that they will win the case.
What do they want?
Some time back the government decided that the pensioner’s money would be paid having been affected by inflation which meant that it would be reduced in some cases as long the economy is hit by inflation.
The pensioners are maintaining that their benefits should not be affected by inflation and should be paid as it is.
The pensioners case has been in court since about 3 years ago and now at the Court of Appeal the petitioners have hope of winning their case to safeguard their pension payments. This case was first filled by Dr. Sam lyomoki and 6 others against the attorney General. It is still advacing in court as Pesioners insist that their pension must be paid in full.
