In a statement following a meeting at State House Entebbe this afternoon, Museveni said he had received a report on the longstanding cooperation between the two countries from the Head of Russian Military Experts, Maj. Gen. Sergei Marchuk, alongside Sergei Labanov and Capt. Aleksei Godiaev.

“I am pleased that projects we started in October 2025, covering the training, operation, maintenance and repair of military equipment, are now ready for commissioning,” Museveni said.

Last year in October, President Museveni received a donation of military equipment worth US$53 million from Russia and launched the Military Mechanised Major Repair Facility at Gaddafi Military Barracks in Magamaga, alongside a workshop project in Entebbe.

The President added that the cooperation continues to strengthen Uganda’s capabilities in the specified areas, highlighting the role of the partnership in developing expertise related to military equipment operations and technical support.

The announcement marks a new stage in the implementation of the projects initiated in October last year, although the President did not specify the commissioning date, the equipment involved or the full scope of the facilities and activities covered.

Uganda and Russia have maintained defence and military ties over the years, with cooperation involving military training and technical support. The latest update points to continued engagement in areas related to equipment maintenance, repair and operational readiness.

Further details on the commissioning arrangements and the specific capabilities to be established are yet to be shared and announced.
