Ugandan Administrators in the President’s Office convened at Mbale Resort Hotel on September 28 for their Annual Retreat, a high-level gathering aimed at strengthening performance, accountability, and alignment with Uganda’s national development priorities.

The retreat brought together senior administrators, departmental heads, and distinguished officials who reflected on service delivery, governance frameworks, and the evolving role of the President’s Office in meeting citizens’ expectations. The serene setting of Mbale provided the ideal backdrop for both strategic discussions and personal reflection.

Among the most notable sessions was a presentation on mental health, stress management, and wellness by Dr. Blessing Namara, a psychologist and Executive Director of Afromothers Uganda. Her session was widely described as eye-opening and practical, drawing strong engagement from the administrators and excellencies present.

Dr. Namara introduced her acclaimed “Bottle Stress Model,” illustrating that a stressed brain resembles a leaking bottle with cracks, unable to hold its contents. “Mental wellness closes the cracks,” she explained, “restoring resilience and enabling leaders to serve effectively.”

Her analogy resonated deeply with the audience, many of whom admitted to the heavy personal and professional demands of public service. Dr. Namara emphasized that stress is not a weakness but a natural outcome of leadership responsibilities. She urged leaders to normalize wellness conversations and adopt deliberate coping mechanisms. “A resilient leader is an effective leader,” she noted.

The administrators welcomed the session as timely, highlighting the need to integrate wellness initiatives into the institutional culture of the President’s Office. Several remarked that the retreat offered not only administrative strategies but also tools for personal growth and self-care.

Beyond mental health, the retreat featured discussions on performance monitoring, accountability, and the coordination of government programs. Speakers stressed the importance of efficiency and transparency in ensuring that the President’s Office remains a model of effective governance.

In the closing session, administrators reaffirmed their commitment to excellence in service delivery and pledged to carry forward both the policy frameworks and wellness insights gained from the retreat. The event concluded on a note of renewed purpose, with participants inspired to serve the nation with both efficiency and resilience.
