Uganda’s coffee boom is doing more than filling export containers. Coffee earnings are rising. Construction is expanding. Real estate is growing. The ripple effect is spreading across the economy.

Uganda’s coffee exports remained the primary driver of the country’s agricultural exports. For the third quarter (Q3) of the 2025/26 fiscal year, Uganda exported a total volume of 1,858,072 60-kilo bags of coffee. This massive output generated a total export value of US$ 508.88 million (approximately UGX 1.86 trillion), showcasing a significant year-on-year surge in export revenue driven by favorable global coffee prices.

Q3 2025/26 Coffee Export Breakdown (Jan – Mar 2026)
    • January 2026: 569,454 bags valued at US$ 161.00 million (approx. UGX 573.50 billion).
    • February 2026: 617,466 bags valued at US$ 174.51 million (approx. UGX 648.31 billion).
    • March 2026: 671,152 bags valued at US$ 173.37 million (approx. UGX 646.75 billion). 

Market Performance and Destinations
  • Variety Split: Robusta coffee accounted for approximately 85% to 90% of the total export volume, with Arabica making up the remaining balance.
  • Primary Markets: Europe remains the largest destination, consuming over 60% of Uganda’s coffee. Italy remains the top single-country buyer, followed by Germany, Algeria, and India. 
  • Intra-African Trade: African nations, including Algeria and Morocco, are increasingly major buyers, absorbing roughly 15-25% of Uganda’s total coffee volume.
