The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have been deployed in Lubero Territory of the Democratic Republic of Congo so that peace and stability are restored in the area.
The troops, who moved south from Butembo, have secured key positions in Lubero, bringing much-needed relief to the local population. This development comes after repeated requests from Kinshasa to Kampala for assistance in tackling the growing insecurity in the region.
At the heart of the UPDF’s operation is the protection of the Bahema ethnic group, which has been targeted by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).
The UPDF’s operation in Lubero is part of the broader efforts by the Ugandan military to combat the ADF in the DRC. The UPDF has been working closely with the Congolese Armed Forces to neutralize the ADF threat to restore peace to the region.
The move has been welcomed by the local population, who have expressed gratitude for the timely intervention.
