The Cuban Ambassador to Uganda Tania Perez Xiques has called upon the United States of America (USA) to stop its aggression on the People’s Republic of Cuba.
She talked to Darious Magara the managing Editor of the Eastafricnawatch.net in an exclusive interview. Read the details below;
- What is your statement in relation to the report?
Answer; Cuba has been showing year by year that the blockade is a massive, flagrant and systematic violation of the human rights of all Cubans and at the same time it means the US government’s disrespect for the decision of the overwhelming majority of the international community.
In addition, the U.S. government has tried to take advantage of the harsh economic and social conditions generated by the pandemic, and have also resorted to lies, slander, data manipulation and the most diverse methods of unconventional warfare, in order to force a political change in Cuba.
This situation is aggravated by the fact that Cuba remains on the unilateral and illegitimate lists published by the State Department on countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism and countries “not fully cooperating” with the anti-terrorist efforts of the United States, which reinforces the dissuasive and intimidating impact of the blockade and its extraterritorial component.
By the way, do you think that there is any African country or any country around the World that believe that Cuba sponsors terrorism?

We hope that you agree with me that we have a enough of reasons to support the Cuba’s Report: On Resolution 75/289 of the United Nations General Assembly entitled “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba”
- What do you think USA should do to end this problem with Cuba?
Answer; The only thing that US government should do is to lift the measures against Cuba without any conditions.
It is true that the USA blockade/embargo has been codified as law which means only the US Congress can bring an end to it, President Biden has wide-raging authority to issue licenses that can modify the to remove those embargo regulations.
In fact, we had an example in 2015-2016 under Obama Administration.
- What should your government do to end the problem?
Answer; We think that Cuba should not do anything to deserve the lift of Embargo by the US Government.
Cuba has ratified the political will to have a respectful and civilized relationship with the US Government as we demonstrated when the Obama administration decided it.
The responsibility of the Cuba government is to work for building the political system approved by the 86.8 % of the Cubans in the Constitution Referendum in 2019.
It has been a unilateral decision adopted by US Government and only that government has the responsibility to lift it.
How can Uganda and other countries help on this problem?
Answer; Uganda and International Community have supported Cuba during three decades after the first resolution of the United Nations General Assembly against the blockade and in the African Union each year the countries of the continent have been unanimously approving their rejection of this policy.
From my point of view, the greatest and best contribution is to understand more and more what this policy means, not only for Cuba but for the world, given its extraterritorial and imperialist character.
No country in the world have the right to decide the fate of another country in the world, and what Cuba is suffering today, in an unprecedented act of genocide; we cannot allow it to be the future of any other people around the world.
