WHAT IS YELLOW FEVER?

Scientifically, it is defined as an acute viral hemorrhagic disease transmitted by infected mosquitoes. It is called yellow because it makes the skin and the eyes of the victims turn yellow-wish.
History
The most affected countries are those in the tropics, Uganda inclusive. World Health Organization’s Collaborative Centre for Yellow Fever estimates it infected 84,000-170,000 people in 2013, killing 29,000 – 60,000 in 34 countries along the tropics.
The last cases in Uganda were recorded in May 2016.A total of 65 suspected yellow fever cases were reported from districts in the greater Masaka region, Rukungiri and Kalangala, Out of the 65 suspected cases, 7 were confirmed and managed.

Its symptom are easy to confuse with malaria symptoms; the more reason medics strongly recommend patients to go for testing before jumping to the conclusion that its malaria. Once contracted symptoms disappear 3 to 4 days down the road, after which the yellow fever virus incubates in the body and starts to damage the body organs, mostly the liver and kidneys.
If not treated, the eyes and the skin start to yellow, and the victim starts to experience external bleeding through the mouth, nose and eyes. Extreme fatal results include death, “says Aceng .
PREVETION
You can prevent its transmission by sleeping by sleeping under treated mosquito nets and eliminating potential mosquito breeding sites. For instance, you can apply insecticides that specifically destroy the larval life stage of an insect to places with stagnant water, like trenches. Microbial larvicides bacillus sphaericus is an example of an effective insecticide, mostly found in shops that deal in pesticides.
You can also fumigate your home to reduce the number of mosquitoes, both indoors and outdoors.
WHO IS EXEMPTED FROM GETTING IMMUNISED?
