Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital, commonly known as Fort Portal Hospital, sometimes referred to as Buhinga Hospital, is a hospital in the town of Fort Portal, in Kabarole District, Western Uganda.
It is the referral hospital for the districts of Bundibugyo, Kabarole, Kamwenge, Kasese, Ntoroko and Kyenjojo but has in a few days come under attack and is actually in the spotlight following reports of mismanagement by especially the hospital top management.
The attack came following the death melodic singer Araali Kigambo Moses who has exposed the health management crisis at the hospital where even patients pay to use the toilets and latrines. (sh. 200 every visit to the toilets)
Araali Kigambo Moses died last week at the hospital allegedly over negligence.
Sources in the district said “also the discrimination in granting govt jobs. The hospital is full of northerners and easterners and in high ranks right from OPD, labs, IPD, stores and HDU yet Tooro has educated, competitive, willing and able medics to serve. Yet we have applied but all in vain”
The source also said “government tries to supply emergency tools to use (drugs, equipments, sundries) but unfortunately the greedy basawo( medical staff) keep them for their selfish benefits”
The source also said “there was a time the late Araali was admitted at FPRRH in 2017, he didn’t receive treatment on time that because he had no syringes. When I went to ward drawers I found plenty of them which I took directly to him and he was able to receive a second dose after delaying it. So, it’s all about theft, selfishness, and reluctance.
Let the administration change. Those guys are old eg Sr Kabakondere the SPNO is trying but she’s very old”
It was also said that the hospital medicine is stolen through the hospital mortuary (Emibazi endi nibagirabya mu mortuary)”.
The other sources in the district said that “ even though the in charge of gynecological and maternity ward is trying, doctors still ask money for caesarian section from mothers and care takers. they either work on them with un sterile instruments or patients end up getting sepsis with its complications like burst abdomen”.
Others sources said that “Our dear gynecological doctor Abirileku is always part timing in private facilities. If given appointment, he takes you to private facility.
Acting in charge maternity is Sr Kagoro Annet and is also in internship in Locor hospital. So, at the hospital we are having a serious crisis”

Dr, Musinguzi the Hospital boss could not be reached for comment but Dr Diana Atwine has called for a crisis meeting tomorrow.
A Presidential Hopeful Kasami Mike Rogers who comes from Kyejojo also appealed to government to quickly address the management crisis at the Hospital before more lives are lost.
He advised that the staff who are incompetent and have over stayed at the Hospital to be transferred and others sacked.
It is said that cleaners and other junior staff are mistreating patients.
